Dr. Metcalf’s DVM Holistic Approach to Your Animal’s Care
Our Holistic Veterinary Approach to Your Animal’s Care
We begin with an in-depth history taking
The discussion period (commonly referred to as “history taking” in veterinary medicine) is in-depth. The focus is to get to the root cause of your animal’s condition.
We will be inquiring about your animal’s:
- Appetite
- Diet
- Thirst levels
- Digestive habits – stools, burping, vomiting
- Sleep patterns
- Temperament and behavior
- Previous illnesses
- Medications
Your animal is given a multi-faceted physical examination
We do a multi-faceted physical examination, including typical factors of any veterinary exam, plus elements that give us more information. This gives us a much richer understanding of the animal’s state.
Dr. Metcalf interprets all medical information using the holistic perspective
Previous medical records, lab results, ultrasounds, and medical information that have been done for your animal are reviewed. We interpret these along with our findings, putting it all together to better understand your animal’s circumstances.
Gentle, yet powerful treatments are provided
These treatments are tailored specifically for your animal’s condition and are done alone or in combination at our holistic veterinary clinic in San Luis Obispo, California.
- Acupuncture
- Osteopathic/Chiropractic adjustments
- Electro-acupuncture
We develop herb, supplement, and nutritional programs
Herbs and/or supplements are prescribed and directed toward your individual animal’s particular needs and to further aid your animal’s body to heal.
An appropriate diet is advised to remove elements that are promoting the disease or disorder, and add nutritional elements to promote your animal’s health.
